Welcome to the Home Page of the White House Historical Association's virtual selection of works of art from the White House collection.

From this page you may click on an icon at the top right corner of the screen to

• view your account;
• log out of this session;

• contact us with questions or comments;
• return to this help menu.

You may also use the navigation buttons at the left of the screen to

• return to the home page at any time during your visit;

• search the collection at either the Basic or Advanced level, using

1. the search builder, or
2. the search form;

• browse the collection by title, artist, type (portraits, seascapes, etc.), or the people depicted in a work of art. It is also possible to browse all works of art by artist's nationality.

 
Near the lower center of the Home Page is a box labeled "Basic Search." Here you may type in any search terms and click Go to see the results. You may also click "More options" to go directly to the main search page, where you will have the opportunity to expand or refine your search request.

 The Light Box

You may click on the Light Box icon at the center left of the screen to save images for study or enjoyment now, or during your return visits. The term "light box" comes from the name of a large surface, lighted from below, on which film photographers view 35mm slides. Your light box serves a similar purpose, and we hope you will enjoy using it often. 

The Slide Show

The image prominently displayed at the right of the screen is only one of a larger sampling of works we have placed on the Home Page to demonstrate the breadth of the White House art collection.

Images in this mini-slide show recur randomly. Click the "refresh" icon on your browser's toolbar to see other images in the show. Click directly on the featured image to go to the "image details" page for that specific work of art.
